It is the responsibility of the client to pay for the installation and the monthly rental fee for the ignition interlock device. The interlock device is located inside the vehicle and is directly connected to the engine’s ignition system. If the resultant breath-alcohol concentration result is greater than the programmed blood alcohol concentration (as determined by the State of Alabama), the device prevents the engine from being started. It requires the driver to blow into a mouthpiece on the device before starting the vehicle. An ignition interlock device or breath alcohol ignition interlock device (IID or BAIID) is an alcohol detection monitor installed on an individual’s vehicle.
